Minecraft Map Art Generator

The Minecraft Map Art Generator turns an image into one 128 × 128 Flat map design for Java Edition 1.21.5. Generate the expected map colors, edit selected blocks, review materials, and download Plain or Grid PNG references for manual building.

Empty preview areas mean no Map Art block is prescribed. The underlying surface can still affect the map color seen in Minecraft.

How to Use the Minecraft Map Art Generator

  1. 01

    Choose a source image

Select a static PNG, JPEG, or WebP image from your device. The file is decoded locally in your browser.

  2. 02

    Generate the map art design

The tool fits the source inside one 128 × 128 Flat scale-0 map and maps it to the supported Java 1.21.5 map colors.

  3. 03

    Review the Map Preview

Inspect the expected in-game map colors before changing any prescribed blocks.

  4. 04

    Edit selected blocks

Open the Canvas to Paint, Erase, Pick, search the Palette, and Undo or Redo committed changes.

  5. 05

    Check materials and download

Review the current block quantities, then download a Plain PNG or Grid PNG visual reference.

What the Generator Produces

Create one complete map

Every generated design uses the fixed 128 × 128 dimensions of one Java Edition scale-0 map.

Keep the source proportions

Centered-contain fitting preserves the image proportions and uses transparent padding where the image does not fill the square.

Refine the prescribed blocks

The pair-aware Canvas lets you change block choices while keeping the current Map Preview, material counts, and downloads synchronized.

Plan from the current design

Build Information reports placed blocks, distinct materials, and per-block quantities from the latest generated or edited design.

Prepare an Image for a Single Minecraft Map

Choose a static PNG, JPEG, or WebP image with a clear subject and readable shapes. The complete result must fit within one 128 × 128 map, so small text, narrow outlines, and fine texture may become less distinct after the image is reduced to the fixed map grid.

A square source uses the available area most directly. Portrait and landscape images keep their original proportions and are centered inside the square instead of being stretched or silently cropped. Any space left around the fitted image becomes transparent padding in the design.

Transparent source areas can become empty design cells rather than prescribed blocks. Treat that transparency as a planning signal, not a promise that the finished in-game map will display a transparent pixel: Minecraft maps may sample the surface beneath an empty location. Before generating, simplify distracting backgrounds when the subject needs a clean outline, and use solid source regions where every map cell should receive a prescribed material.

Understand the 128 × 128 Map Art Output

The current workflow is fixed to Java Edition 1.21.5, Flat mode, map scale 0, and one 128 × 128 map. There is no edition, version, scale, size, or shading selector. The Map Preview shows the expected map-result colors from the current design rather than the surface colors of the selected block textures.

Each non-empty cell keeps both its map-color identity and its selected building block. This distinction lets the preview remain focused on the expected map result while Build Information lists the actual block materials prescribed by the design.

Edit Map Art Blocks Before Building

Open the Canvas to adjust individual prescribed blocks. Paint replaces a cell with the selected eligible block, Erase makes it empty, and Pick selects a block already present. Palette search, Recent Blocks, Undo, and Redo help refine the current design without creating a disconnected copy.

Pan and Zoom affect only the editor view, while Grid changes how cell boundaries are displayed. After an edit, the Map Preview, material quantities, and both downloads continue to use the same current design.

Review the Design Before Collecting Blocks

Check the overall map

Start with the Map Preview to judge the complete composition. Look for silhouettes, edges, or color regions that became unclear on the fixed grid before spending time on individual block substitutions.

Refine only where needed

Use the Canvas for focused corrections rather than repainting the whole result. Zoom in for single cells, keep Grid visible when tracing rows, and zoom out again to make sure a local edit still works in the full map.

Confirm the material list

Build Information reports placed blocks, distinct materials, and the quantity of each selected block from the latest design. Empty cells and unused Palette choices do not add to those totals.

Download Map Art Build References

Both PNG files reflect the latest generated or edited result. They are visual references for manual construction, notmap.dat, NBT, Schematic, Litematica, command, or world exports.

Plain PNG

A 128 × 128 image of the expected map-color result, with one output pixel for each design cell. Use it to review the complete image without construction lines.

Grid PNG

A larger construction reference with visible cell boundaries. Follow the rows and columns one block at a time while placing the prescribed materials.

Browser-Local Processing and Current Limits

The source image, generated design, editor history, and downloads remain in the active browser session. The application does not upload or store the source, create an account, save a project, or provide cloud synchronization.

This workflow creates one Flat scale-0 map only. It does not tile an image across multiple maps or plan height-difference shading, water depth, 3D elevation, Bedrock output, or automatic in-game placement.

Map Art Generator Questions

What does the Minecraft Map Art Generator create?
It creates one 128 × 128 Flat scale-0 design for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.5, with a Map Preview, selected blocks, material quantities, and PNG references.
Does the generator crop or stretch my image?
No. It uses centered-contain fitting, which preserves the source proportions and adds transparent padding where needed.
Can I change the generated blocks?
Yes. Open the Canvas to Paint, Erase, Pick, search blocks, use Recent selections, Pan, Zoom, toggle the Grid, and Undo or Redo edits.
Do material counts update after editing?
Yes. Build Information derives dimensions and material quantities from the current generated or edited design.
What is the difference between Plain PNG and Grid PNG?
Plain PNG shows the 128 × 128 map-color result. Grid PNG adds visible cell boundaries for following the design block by block.
Can this generate multiple maps or map.dat files?
No. The current tool creates one Flat scale-0 map design and provides Plain PNG and Grid PNG references only.
Is my source image uploaded?
No. Source-image processing, the generated design, editing state, and downloads remain in the active browser session.
