Blank canvas drawing
Minecraft Canvas
Minecraft Canvas is a blank-first Minecraft pixel-art editor for planning a block design directly in your browser. Choose the dimensions, create an empty grid, and place Java Edition blocks by hand without importing or converting an image.
Your design and editing session stay in this browser.

What You Can Do on the Blank Grid
Start from an empty grid
Minecraft Canvas is blank-first. It does not require an image upload or generate an initial block layout.
Draw rectangular designs
Choose independent width and height values from 1 to 128 while keeping the design within 16,384 cells.
Edit one current design
Paint, Erase, Pick, Palette search, Recent Blocks, Pan, Zoom, Grid, Undo, and Redo all operate on the active browser-session design.
Track blocks as you draw
Build Information updates from the current design with placed blocks, distinct materials, and per-block quantities.
Plan Block Art Before You Build
Use the empty grid when you already have an idea and want to decide where each block belongs. A small icon, wall pattern, floor motif, sign, or other flat build can be drafted one cell at a time. Because every cell represents one block, the design stays easy to read while you work. This direct approach also suits original patterns that do not begin with a source image and need no automatic color mapping.
Start with the overall silhouette, then add large color areas before refining edges and details. Keeping the Grid visible makes rows and columns easier to follow. If a section does not look right, use Undo and Redo to compare changes instead of rebuilding the entire drawing.
Start from an Image Instead
Minecraft Canvas stays blank-first. If you need a Minecraft image converter or want to turn an image into Minecraft pixel art, use the Minecraft Pixel Art Generator. It creates the first block layout from an image before you edit individual cells.
For one fixed 128 × 128 in-game map, open the Minecraft Map Art Generator. That workflow uses map-specific colors and block choices rather than this tool's blank Pixel Art palette.
A Practical Block-Drawing Workflow
Establish the proportions
Mark the top, bottom, left, and right edges before filling the center. These reference points make it easier to keep a shape centered and to notice when one side is wider than the other. For a symmetrical design, build one half first and use the Grid to mirror its row and column positions.
Fill large areas before details
Place the main background and dominant color regions before working on single-cell accents. This order keeps the overall composition visible and reduces repeated block switching. Palette search helps locate a material, while Recent Blocks keeps the colors already in use available for the next area.
Check the pattern at two scales
Zoom in to correct individual cells, then zoom out to inspect the silhouette and color balance. Toggle the Grid off for a cleaner visual check and turn it back on before counting rows or tracing an edge. Finish by reviewing material quantities and downloading the reference that fits your building method.
Choose a Blank Canvas Size
Start with a 16, 32, 64, or 128 square preset, or enter custom rectangular dimensions. Width and height each support 1 to 128 cells, and the complete grid can contain up to 16,384 cells. The default 32 × 32 size gives you room to sketch without opening the largest workspace.
Match the width and height to the space available in your build. A wide banner needs different proportions from a square emblem, so custom dimensions help avoid unused rows or columns. Size cannot be changed after creation; use New Canvas when you need different dimensions.
Draw with Minecraft Blocks
The Palette uses the reviewed Java Edition 1.21.5 block catalog. Search by block name, select a material, and Paint cells on the grid. Erase removes a placed block, while Pick selects a block already used in the design so you can continue with the same material.
Recent Blocks keeps frequently used choices close at hand during the current session. Pan and Zoom change only your view, and the Grid can be hidden when you want to inspect the artwork without cell lines. None of those view controls changes the block layout.
Review Blocks and Material Quantities
Build Information follows the current drawing. It shows the dimensions, total placed blocks, number of distinct materials, and the quantity of every block in use. Empty cells and Palette choices that were never placed are excluded from the totals.
Check the list after major edits so the material plan matches the latest version. Paint, Erase, Undo, and Redo all update the same current design used for the counts and downloads.
Keep the Design in Your Browser Session
The grid, editing history, selected blocks, search, and recent choices stay in the active browser session. The application does not upload or store the drawing, and there is no account, saved project, recovery draft, or share link.
Download any references you need before closing the page. Starting a New Canvas discards the current work; when blocks have been placed, the tool asks for confirmation first.
Download PNG Build References
Both downloads reflect the latest edited design. They are visual references for reading the pattern outside the editor; they do not create a Minecraft world, structure file, schematic, or automatic in-game build.
Plain PNG
A clean image of the current design with one output pixel for each cell. Use it for a compact overview of the colors and overall shape.
Grid PNG
A larger construction reference with visible cell boundaries. Follow the rows and columns one block at a time while building the design manually.
